Rehabilitating a block of the Historic Centre of Seville with contemporary architecture
Background: José Espiau early twenties architecture and Protection PlanThe project for the rehabilitation of these 1925 buildings met the approval of the Seville Council Planning Commission, as the local newspaper El Correo de Andalucía reflects in the following terms:
The building that was declared in ruins in 2001, will feature thirty luxury apartments, more than one hundred parking spaces for cars and 14 for motorcycles and commercial premises The project, approved by the Planning Commission, raises but respects the façades, and the first bay of the buildings, while maintaining the old character of “neighbours yard” and gives to it a "functional impetus, opening an access through a gallery, while a garden will be planted in the courtyard surrounding a central pond. The importance given to the new patio is such that "while retaining its typological function as a space of environmental quality that helps providing thermal comfort and humidity," the courtyard façades wear a partially practicable continuous lattice that filters the light to plants placed between those filters and the house windows.
